I am going to be the PA announcer for an NCAA Women’s game tomorrow and have never been to a game before. Help?!?

Hi all,

So I do some work for a local college and have worked for their hockey games for the past couple of seasons, as a PA announcer and Scorekeeper. That was no big deal because I have watched hockey all of my life and I know that game pretty well.

Now today, I was asked to cover the PA announcer spot for a Women's lacrosse game tomorrow. I've never seen a full game and know next to nothing about the game. My big concern is that I don't know what typically gets announced during games. I know pregame will be fairly straightforward (lineups, coaches, anthem), but during gameplay I'm lost. I'm assuming goals and penalties get announced, but is there anything else (like in hockey, they announce when one minute is left in the period, and they usually announce when a penalty expires)?

And I don't know about specifics of calling goals or penalties- are there assists that get announced? Do they typically announce the timing of the goal and how is that calculated? Do they announce the name of each penalty or foul and the guilty player? Or only ones where a player goes to the penalty area? Heck I don't even understand how penalties work in lacrosse to begin with. Are there any timing peculiarities that I should know about?

I'm sure that someone will be there to help me through it, but I want to start doing homework now. Thanks all in advance- i appreciate any help you all can offer.

So I got cut from my HS team because I played bad at tryouts but I know I could play better because I tried out for a club team and made it.

Anyway, I’m pining to play lax because my club team doesn’t start till june and I want to keep playing and keep my skills up. Does anyone know of any High School leagues in Massachusetts area that I could play during the spring season?
